As the province of Antwerp we want creating space for agriculture. We do this through local authorities and farmers instruments to be provided for agricultural redevelopment, zoning-inappropriate reuse and demolition. In this way, we ensure better access to agricultural land for farmers. We are developing a policy on public agricultural land. The Province of Antwerp believes in a integrated agricultural policy, where we through thoughtful agricultural land policy to create an offensive open space.

The Province of Antwerp aims for a economically resilient agriculture in harmony with the environment. We realize practical research So that farmers can develop more knowledge and expertise to evolve towards a future-oriented model in harmony with the environment and closing cycles. Our goal is not only to produce food, but also to enrich the soil, promote biodiversity, sequester water and carbon, and generate sustainable energy. The province of Antwerp wants to work on an ambitious transition to circular agriculture using principles from agroecology. We are exploring the development of new chains and revenue models.

The province of Antwerp has two practical centres that focus on practical research in the animal sector: the Poultry Farming Experimental Farm and Hooibeekhoeve.

The Poultry Farming Research Centre is committed to future-oriented poultry farming through practical research on laying hens and broilers and through knowledge exchange. As a reference center for practical research, they play a key role in Belgium and beyond. 

Hooibeekhoeve strives for future-oriented dairy farming through practical research and targeted knowledge sharing. As a meeting and demonstration center for professional and aspiring dairy farmers, they offer customized information, from study days and field trials to thematic exchanges.
